Microsilica, primarily of amorphous (non-crystalline) silicon dioxide (SiO). The individual particles are extremely small, approximately 1/100 th the size of an average cement particle. Because of its fine particles, large surface area, and the high SiO content, microsilica is a very reactive pozzolan when used in concrete.

When added to cement concrete, it improves its properties, particularly its compressive strength, bond strength and abrasion resistance as well as improved density, permeability & early finishing & electric resistance. By adding silica fume to the cement, it makes reinforcing steel corrosion-proof, thus giving concrete structures longevity even in chloride-rich environments such as coastal regions, runways, saltwater bridges as well as used in dams, mines, tunnels, high rise buildings and various concrete products including ready-mix concrete. Concrete containing microsilica can have very high strength and can be very durable.
